NATURAL HISTORIES

As a child I enjoyed foraging in the garden, and delighted in finding creatures of all sorts. I had a miniature ' museum' which housed lots of natural history finds. My fascination with natural history and museums continues, natural history collections have become the subject of an ongoing body of work.

The blue and white butterflies and insects are a homage to the work of the 17th century pioneering naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian and the aesthetic of blue and white Choiserie porecelain. The use of yupo paper and watercolour evokes the delicate, translucency of delicate porcelain and the fragility of the insects.
